In December 2006 Fenland District Council voted to sell off their council housing stock, and the homes were actually transferred in November 2007.

The stock was valued at £41,046,000 for 3754 houses (which computes to a very reasonable £10,934 per house). The stock was then discounted to a total value of £22,878,000 (which comes down to the 'bargain basement' figure of £6,094 per house).

Out of the 3754 houses sold, 353 were in the Parish of Chatteris. The income from the Chatteris housing stock sold was therefore £2,151,288.

Where did the Chatteris housing stock come from? Practically all the houses were built before 1974 and belonged to Chatteris Urban District Council. They were then given to Fenland District Council, along with many other valuable Chatteris assets.

Surely it is only fair that the proceeds from this sale of Chatteris's former assets should be spent in under-provided-for Chatteris?

Can it be reasonable that Fenland District Council should be permitted to go on and on spending money elsewhere in Fenland and ignoring the needs of Chatteris?
