Chris Howes
for Fenland District Council (Slade Lode)and Chatteris Town Council (Slade Lode)Over the past few years Chris has become increasingly well known in Chatteris in his role as a particularly active and conscientious Town Councillor and campaigner for local improvements. Amongst Chris's work he has ensured that "section 106 community" benefit money is now efficiently collected by, and properly spent by, Fenland District Council and ensured that County Council is at last taken positive action on the state of the Forty Foot road. Chris and his partner Christine bought their house in 2000 and Chris has since modernised and extended it to make a comfortable family home. Their children have attended King Edward School and Cromwell Community college where Luke is now in year 10 and Verity the upper 6th form. Chris soon became Chairman of the Chatteris Scout Group and lead the refurbishment of the Scout Hall. He was also a member of the Chatteris Regeneration Group, and was instrumental in its evolution into Chatteris Phoenix. In 2003 Chris was elected to Chatteris Town Council. He has worked tirelessly for the community, but has been extremely disappointed by the Town Council's disinclination to embrace new ideas and change. Chris knows just what a Town Council can do for a community from his past experiences as a Town Councillor in St Neots, and wants to continue working to see Chatteris make similar gains. Also, Chris is very anxious to see Chatteris benefitting from Fenland District Council members who will work to ensure that Chatteris is fairly treated at last and gets the fair deal it deserves.
